Is your business on Snapchat? Snapchat has 161 million active users each day (and that number has been steadily growing). That makes Snapchat one of the biggest social media platforms out there today, especially among Millennials. Effects and filters are widely popular on Snapchat, if you haven’t checked out creating your own geofilters yet, you’re missing out!
What exactly is a geofilter, you might ask? Using a geofilter adds a fun overlay onto a user’s photo that helps them share where they’re at or what they’re doing.
What can your business use geofilters for?
If you have a physical location, consider creating a unique Snapchat geofilter for your business. If you’re hosting an event, you can create a geofilter to use during the event. You don’t have to be a huge company or attraction to create your own geofilter, anyone can do it!
Using geofilters can help show off your brand’s personality and be a great form of word-of-mouth marketing! (We all love word-of-mouth!)
Each geofilter can remain active for 30 days, once it expires you can always create a new one!
How do you create a Snapchat geofilter?
It’s actually pretty simple, and you don’t have to be a social media or design expert to do it!
Here are the steps:
Step 1: Design your Geofilter
You have 2 options here.
First: create your own using Photoshop or Illustrator. SnapChat even provides handy templates to get you started. Take a look at this page for more help on designing your own filter.
The second option: use Snapchat’s handy online design tool! They give you everything you need to create an awesome design. So easy a baby could do it—okay, maybe not, but it is super-simple!
Step 2: Map it Out
In this step you’ll be able to select your “geofence” or the area in which people will be able to select your filter to use. You geofence must be 20,000 square feet at a minimum, and up to 5,000,000 square feet.
Make sure your geofence covers the area slightly outside your desired location just to be safe!
Step 3: Buy
Here’s where you submit your design, get approval, and purchase it!
Geofilters are reviewed in the order they’re received, but typically you it’ll take 1 business day for you to hear back.
How much does a geofilter cost?
Prices may change in the future, but the approximate cost for a geofilter is about $5 per 20,000 square feet. Definitely do-able for any small business!
Have you created geofilters in the past? What was your experience like?
